One of the best things about dining out in China’s capital is that you get to taste cuisines from all over the country, lovingly prepared by experts in an ode to their hometowns. One cuisine in particular that often surprises visitors is that of China’s western Xinjiang Province, which borders Afghanistan, Pakistan, India and Mongolia. As a result, its cuisine consists of a lot of mutton, beef, breads, carrots, onions, aubergines, dairy and fruits, and Crescent Moon is just the restaurant at which to sample it. A cosy gem hidden inside the hutongs, this eatery’s Uyghur team is known for cooking high quality, unbelievably succulent lamb skewers, seasoned naan breads, stir-fried cabbage, lamb pie, chewy aubergine noodles and all manner of hearty dishes that never fail to satisfy.
