A T-shirt store that’s simply so much more. Plastered first opened its doors on a sleepy hutong called Nanluoguxiang back in 2005. Today, thanks to its success and the other shops that capitalized on it, that same street has been known to require ticketing, seeing as many visitors per day as any major tourist sight in the capital. How come? Started by a Brit, Plastered was one of the first independent boutiques in Beijing to employ local creative talents to brilliant effect, pushing out T-shirt designs that perfectly encapsulated all that was unique, quirky and downright hilarious about the city. Nowadays also producing a handful of other limited-edition souvenirs, the store itself offers another reason to go, since it remains an absolute treat to spend time in thanks to its creativity, tongue-in-cheek humour, and the fun and friendly Beijing grandmas that have run it since the beginning.
